STSM participant Joana Sousa is a PhD student at the Blue Biotechnology & Biomedicine lab led by Dr Susana P. Gaudêncio at UCIBIO FCT-NOVA. She was awarded with STSM at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel (Germany) from February 1st until 17th March. During that time Joana learned how to do some biological activity assays of marine-sediment-derived actinomycetes strains from Estremadura Spur and of pure compounds.
