STSM participant Çiğdem Dikel is a PhD student at University of Çukurova Biotechnology Research and Application Center. Her research fields are marine natural biopolymers and compounds. She was awarded the STSM at the Department of Pharmacognosy and Natural products Chemistry of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Department of Pharmacy.
The aim of this STSM was to characterize astaxanthin obtained from Haematococcus pluvialis and shrimp (Parapenaeus longirostris) shell wastes using advanced chromatographic techniques. The candidate had the opportunity to acquire natural component molecule identification and skills in the pharmacognosy laboratory with Prof. Dr. Vassilios Roussis and his wonderful team and to achieve promising results by further developing them in collaboration.
